OpenAI rolls out GPT-6 with "Intelligent UI" to everyone in ChatGPT
Per OpenAI's announcement and Unite.AI's reporting, Intelligent UI lets ChatGPT answer with fully interactive interfaces — visual, clickable tools — rather than plain text, for everyday questions and complex topics alike. The rollout started October 7 for Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users (Enterprise depends on admin settings) and reaches Free and Go tiers October 8. It's powered by GPT-6 Sol for paid tiers and GPT-6 Luna for Free/Go.
Signal: OpenAI itself calls this "a significant shift in how people interact with ChatGPT," and the reach is real — this goes to all 1.2B+ weekly ChatGPT users, not a narrow beta. It's also a notable UX bet: instead of just better text answers, OpenAI is making interactivity the differentiator against competitors.

Anthropic completes the Claude 5.5 family with Haiku 5.5
Per Anthropic's own announcement, Haiku 5.5 is "the cheapest, fastest, and most capable small model" it has released, priced at $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output under 100K tokens. Anthropic also halved cache-read pricing on Sonnet 5.5, cutting typical agentic-work costs by about 20%. Haiku 5.5 is live now on Claude's platform, AWS, Google Cloud and Azure.
Signal: this closes the loop Anthropic opened on Sep 29 when it said Haiku 5.5 was coming "in the following weeks" — worth noting the "75% cheaper" headline is an average, not universal: standard-length prompts are roughly 10x cheaper on input / 5x on output than Haiku 4.5, but prompts over 100,000 tokens actually cost more than before. Independent testing (not Anthropic's own) found the new Haiku beats GPT-6 Luna, which is priced identically, on a set of head-to-head benchmarks.

Microsoft pushes "Hybrid Intelligence" onto Windows: local models, agent sandboxes, and a PC-optimized coding model
Per Satya Nadella's announcement and TestingCatalog's reporting, Microsoft unveiled "MAI-Code-1.1 Flash," a 137B-parameter coding model with a 256K context window optimized to run locally on PCs, with GitHub Copilot now able to hand off work to it instead of the cloud to cut cost. Microsoft also introduced "MXC" execution containers — policy-driven sandboxes that enforce file and network access limits for AI agents acting on a user's PC — plus new Copilot experiences built around that hybrid local/cloud routing, announced at an event in San Francisco.
Signal: a concrete follow-through on Microsoft's enterprise-focused "Copilot as OS for work" repositioning from last week — this time aimed specifically at Windows PCs and local compute rather than the cloud, with Jensen Huang appearing alongside Nadella, tying it to the broader on-device-AI hardware push alongside Apple and Google's recent local-model moves.
